For a convicted criminal, completed jail time doesn’t necessarily mean the sentence is over, but in most cases, is just beginning. Ex-offenders face a harsh reality once justice is served through the service of a sentence. Jobs are scarce, and prejudice runs deep for those with a criminal record. In many cases, a conviction becomes life sentence for nonviolent and first-time offenders as the barriers erected prevent them from reentering society as full members and make it all but impossible to move on with their lives in a self-developing and productive way.
For the sixty-five million Americans with criminal records, there are few employment options. There is no discrimination on a criminal background report between nonviolent first-time offenders to those who committed crimes of violence. Many former inmates grow up in impoverished America and have little formal education. With few options for viable work, and hampered by a debilitating social stigma, survival in meeting the basic needs becomes a hopeless way of life. Rehabilitation, if it occurs at all, is incidental in the present US system.
Frank Gruttadauria, a former investment banker who served seven years for white-collar crimes, understands the challenges faced by ex-offenders. In Under the Banner of Justice, he describes the journey many young, nonviolent, first-time offenders take as their indigence and lack of formal education grease the skids of their journey through the unforgiving criminal justice system.

Full disclosures are in order. I am retired from judging people as a judge, Frank is retired from being judged by judges. I know Frank, and his book is a good honest read and we don’t have many disagreements. The book is not for everyone, only those who have an interest in the criminal justice system or who have been burdened by its heavy hand. Many who read “Under the Banner of Justice” will view the Criminal Justice system through a telescope and see and find nothing wrong…you would be wrong. Consider the facts that United States locks of more people than any other country in the world and uses more resources to than any other nation so we can run on the platform of “Tough on Crime.” Pick it up ...it just might cause you to wonder what we as a nation are doing and supporting.Product details

Under The Banner Of Justice edition by Frank Gruttadauria Professional Technical eBooks Reviews
Under the Banner of Justice stirred my blood when realizing that the criminal justice system, like any other business, must do what it can to maintain itself and thrive. Gruttadauria did a great job illustrating the struggles to escape the system faced by many indigent people—and the sad fact that many don't ever get out. His call for action toward the end of the book, particularly in helping formerly incarcerated people find gainful employment and access to education, is something all members of society should consider. If we want this country to flourish, consider what to do with all these "thrown away people." The number is staggeringly high in this country. Well written. Highly recommend.
I believe Justice System was created as a standard of discipline to allow a lawbreaker to correct their mistake in the eyes of their community and gain self-respect in the knowledge that their actions have been rectified to the satisfaction of the community.
Today, this same system has evolved into a political ladder with few constraints on the actions of officials chosen to guide citizens though the legal process. Cases are handled with expedience; in other words, a regard for what is politic or advantageous rather than for what is right or just and labels the offenders in a such a way that life after prison is a gateway that leads straight back to prison.
I recently read where a judge was prosecuted for selling teens to prisons. Privatization of prisons means the owners do not make a profit unless you do time.
Frank Gruttadauria brings the U.S. Justice System’s structuring and methods to light for those who are unfamiliar with its morphing into a political ladder and the bias of the practices that go against everything the constitution holds.
I recommend this book to everyone.
Excellent book and extremely infomative and especially to anyone that has not experienced the American Judicial System.
Great book and information about what really happens to returning citizens.
This book, based on Frank's research and experiences, 100% accurately captures the many facets of the judicial system and the inherent issues within..
For those that have blindly listened to, and followed, the politicians that have wholeheartedly embraced mass incarceration, even for non violent infractions, will be amazed that all this could be true.
I strongly encourage everyone to read this book!
This book was written so intelligently, and from experience. There are so many holes in our justice system before, during and after incarceration. Frank Gruttadauria has seen them up close, and exposes some of the most important obstacles for non-violent criminals trying to start over. But not only does he shed light on the many injustices that are occurring once someone leaves jail, but he offers a SOLUTION and a call for change. Take note of this book - read it - and join him and others, and now me, in making this change for humankind and for society.
The author takes you on a journey through America's justice system, from a stistical and first hand account. The book reveals a flawed system of rehabilitation and socio-economic failures. Mr. Gruttadauria writes not as an academic, but as a former inmate of a non-violent crime and his reintroduction into the "system". He joined the ranks, along with millons like him, of the "Throwaway People". UNDER THE BANNER OF JUSTICE, should not only be read by the general public, but should be required reading in Sociology and Criminal Justice courses. I highly recommend this
book.
